Those interested in partnering could possibly be included in the budget. Also, TEP/TAG materials will be available for use at the Youth Service Bureau.
New Business-Teresa distributed a summary of the 2008 ATOD survey, which highlights the areas of significant differences of specific drug abuse by grade in state and local comparisons. The survey shows prescription drugs, smokeless tobacco, and alcohol to be the most problematic. Teresa also reminded the council of the March 10th deadline for mini-grant applications. Jon Kuss reported it was decided the council would not be applying for the Drug Free Communities grant this year as the approaching deadline is too soon for level of preparedness in getting a winning proposal together.
Announcements-Jim Grizzel distributed flyers from the Prevent Child Abuse council announcing training for interviewing child molestation victims on March 5 & 6th. Cost is $10 ($15 after Feb. 19) and includes lunch. In addition to that training, Jim distributed registration forms from Cheryl Hillenburg to attend the Prevention & Recognition of Child Abuse by Dr. Laskey on April 14 @ Hillview Christian Church. Kim Grizzel announced that CARES had received the Point of Youth grant. Also, CARES will not be applying for the Safe Schools federal grant due to turnaround time. Jon Kuss announced the literacy program for inmates is going well. Sheriff Wilkerson added that the library has donated materials for the program. Jim Grizzel expressed concern for the future of probation departments in Indiana sharing that they may be part of the restructuring of state government and uncertain at this point how that will affect his department locally.
Next meeting scheduled for March 17th.
