Meeting Minutes

July 21, 2009

 

Those present:  Teresa Harp, LCC Coordinator, Andy Beals, Crawford Co. Sheriff Dept., Fran Wheeler, Youth Service Bureau, Missy Stroud, Crawford Co. Tobacco Coalition, Janna Hocker, Gov. Commission, Sheila Kempf, So. Hills Counseling, Jackie Young, Purdue Ext., Amy Baxley, CARES/PACK, Kim Grizzel, CARES/PACK, Cheryl Hillenburg, Crawford Co. Prosecutor, Kathy Kuss, Hoosier Hills PACT

 

Minutes were read and approved. Motion by Jackie Young. 2nd Andy Beals  9-0.

 

Treasurer’s Report-Teresa reported there is a current balance of $2,078.24 in the 2009 budget. That should be enough to cover Red Ribbon Week materials and Teresa’s remaining pay.

 

Gov. Commission-Janna reminded everyone of the next Southeast Regional meeting to be held Oct. 30. The focus will be on applying for the next Drug Free Communities grant cycle. They will have a presenter by someone who is currently a recipient and share their experience with the process. New applicants should plan on focusing on proposing strategies rather than programs. There is a free Advanced Criminal Interdiction Training Aug. 14 @ the Clarksville Community Center.  National Drug Interdiction Training is Aug.17-21.

 

Tobacco Coalition-Missy is waiting to see how the next grant funding cycle proceeds. She shared that surveys showing areas of youth tobacco use decreasing. The new focus is on pregnancies, families and mental health. The high school will be receiving the Gary Sanderford Award for adopting a smoke-free policy.

 

Grant Reporting-Kim Grizzel proposed changes for the mini-grant funded “Represent” program to meet changes in staffing and schedule. She and Amy Baxley will resubmit the changes which reflect all materials and specific discussions with parents relating to drug use. Motion was made by Kathy Kuss 2nd by Andy Beals. 9-0.

Andy reported that the hand held equipment has been purchased by the Sheriff’s department.  Fran Wheeler reported on the All-Stars program, funded by the Safe Schools grant applied for by the Youth Service Bureau on behalf of the council. Fran reported 216 students participated with 43% demonstrating an increase in knowledge of drug and alcohol.

 

New Business/Announcement-Kim Grizzel shared that she asked the new minister, Jim Walton, about attending minutes. However, he is unable to attend due to other employment obligations. Council members will continue to seek out other clergy. Teresa reported that she is having a difficult time getting surveys and only has 51 and asked the council to make another effort to get more completed.
