Meeting Minutes

September 15, 2009

 

Present:  Teresa Harp, LCC Coordinator, Amy Baxley, PACK, Jacob Baxley, Fran Wheeler, Youth Service Bureau, Charles Pirtle, Indiana State Police, Missy Stroud, Hoosier Uplands/ITPC, Janna Hocker, Gov. Chuck Pirtle made the motion to accept the Aug. minutes, Missy Stroud 2nd. Approved 11-0.

 

Treasurer’s Report-Jim reported the balance of funds as $40,062.05.  Teresa reported an annual budget balance of $403.52, which will be spent on the Red Ribbon breakfast in Oct and her final claim for 2009. The amount collected in countermeasure fees by end of Aug. was $11,781.79

 

Governor’s Commission-Southeast Regional Training will be Oct. 30, 9-3 @ Jeeves Restaurant in Scottsburg.  Four evidence based programs will be presented including Life Skills and Prime for Life by Kathy Kuss and a program by Fran Wheeler.

 

LCC Coordinator-Teresa reported that materials have been ordered for Red Ribbon Week for K-8 packets for the schools and will be similar to last years. We will also have a special breakfast buffet in recognition of Red Ribbon Week.  Also, new the council website is a locator link for locating treatment facilities. It is simple to use and one only needs to type in their zip code to find the facility nearest them.  It also shows what type of treatment as well as payment options.  Finally, the results of the community survey are compiled and posted on the website for anyone to view and download.

 

New Business/Announcements-Brad Wilhalm was present as the VOICE coordinator.  Brad explained that the role of VOICE was to help the youth fight back the media tobacco messages that influence public.  He hopes to bring the message and work with youth programs in Crawford Co. There are quarterly youth and adult trainings.

Amy Baxley reported that the Words Can Work program has begun and that the Matt Damon narrated DVD’s are being promoted for viewing by parents.  PACK hopes to build on the program and increase attendance.
