Meeting Minutes
October 20, 2009

Jon Kuss, chair, welcomed everyone for the Red Ribbon Week breakfast. Red bracelets and pencils were provided to all in attendance.
Minutes were read and approved. Jim Grizzel. 2nd by Terry Allen. 13-0.
Treasurer’s Report-No report
Gov. Commission-Janna Hocker reminded everyone of the Regional meeting of 5th Friday would be held Oct. 30. Everyone will be able to view the curriculums used for the Safe Schools programs that were funded. The afternoon session will discuss innovative ways for fundraising presentation and be held 9:30 am-3:00pm @ Jeeve’s Restaurant in Scottsburg. Janna also announced a free Cybercrime Training @ the governor’s center.
Tobacco Coalition-Missy shared that the changes in her role for Crawford County will be to monitor calls to the Nicotine hotline.
Grant Reporting-No mini-grant reports were given, however, Teresa reminded everyone that final reports would need to be submitted before the end of the year. It was reported that the prosecutor’s office did receive a two-year grant to address drug offense prosecution.
LCC Coordinator-Teresa reported that Red Ribbon Week packets were distributed to about 52 classrooms in grades K-8 as well as the Youth Service Bureau. This month’s meeting provided a buffet breakfast for council members to kick off Red Ribbon Week. Teresa sent a PSA announcement to radio station but did not receive a response. She also provided a summary of the new Comprehensive Plan problem statements and objectives to the council and asked that tentative approval be given by the council. Jim Grizzel made the motion to accept the plan as presented. Sherry Newton 2nd. 13-0.
Teresa announced her decision to resign as coordinator as of the end of November and asked the council how to proceed with filling the position. It was the consensus of the council to first open the position to the council for 2 weeks. Those interested should contact Jon Kuss by email. The executive committee will make the final decision.
New Business/Announcements-Ray Saylor announced the advanced Drug Interdiction Training provided by ICJI that he would be attending. Ray also reported that he has partnered with Milltown Elementary in observance of Red Ribbon Week activities.
Amy Baxley reported that PACK/CARES is promoting the Talk to Teens program @ 6:30 p.m. at the high school. Jon Kuss announced that Hoosier Hills PACT is sponsoring a community awareness event for high school senior boys called Men Against Violence Against Women would take place on Oct. 27 in front of the Courthouse @ 11:30-12:30. The high school’s principal, Mr. Moe, and local law enforcement will participate. Pizza will be provided to the young men for lunch.
Next meeting is November 16th.
