Meeting Minutes

April 17, 2009

 

Those present:  Teresa Harp, Coordinator LCC, Ray Saylor, Milltown Police Dept., Shawn Scott, Crawford Sheriff Dept., Jackie Young, Purdue Ext., Missy Stroud, CCTPC, Bev Smith, United Methodist Church, Fran Wheeler, CCYSB, Terry Allen, Conservation Officer, Sharon Lawson, Purdue Coop Ext., Sheila Kempf, Southern Hills Counseling Center, Jon Kuss, Hoosier Hills PACT, Janna Hocker, Gov. Commission

 

Terry Allen made the motion to accept minutes. Bev Smith 2nd.  9-0.

 

Treasurer’s Report-Treasurer not present.

 

Gov. Commission-Janna announced the next Regional meeting (5th Friday) is scheduled for May 29th.  Teresa will attend and be on a panel relating to sector representation.  Janna also reminded the council of the National Drug Interdiction Workshop in Aug.

 

Tobacco Coalition-Missy reported the next 2 years focus on tobacco gives attention to the area of mental health.  There will also be a school board meeting with the school nurse giving a presentation and recommendation for the school board to adopt a smoke-free campus policy.  Also, Harrison county clinic is providing free Chantix for anyone with a prescription from his or her doctor.

 

Law Enforcement Grant Proposals- In a second round of proposals for law enforcement mini-grants, the following presentations were given:

 

Ray Saylor, Milltown Police Dept.-Canine Narcotic Drug Intervention Program & Shawn Scott, Crawford Co. Sheriff Dept.-Determine, Detect, & Deter

 

Announcements-Jon Kuss reported that there was good attendance at Dr. Laskey’s workshop at Hillview Christian Church.  However, lower turnout for the evening candlelight vigil.  Sharon Lawson expressed appreciation for those helping with Project Lead and reported success with that program.  Bev Smith announced her retirement and plans to move from the area. Bev will ask her clergy replacement to attend future meetings after she leaves the end of June.

 

Next meeting is May 19th.
